STUDIES IN REVELATION (PART 10) - THE BEAST WITH THE MARK

After seeing the beast of the sea, John saw a second beast arise; this one coming up out of the earth (Revelation 13:11). This beast had (in John’s words) “two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon.” In a manner similar to the beast from the sea receiving his authority from the dragon, the beast of the earth acts with authority given to him by the beast from the sea.

This beast from the earth is able to perform great signs, such as making fire come down from the sky to the earth. The major purpose of this beast is to direct all worship on the first beast of this vision, the beast from the sea. It seems likely that this beast from the earth appears at the time of the breaking of the covenant that the beast from the sea had with the “many.”

As we discussed last week, before this covenant was broken by the beast from the sea (the antichrist, the one whom Daniel spoke of as “the prince who is to come”), he allowed a certain amount of freedom in worship among the Jews. However, when the covenant is broken in the middle of Daniel’s week (Daniel 9:27), the beast reneges on his promise, and that freedom is revoked.

The one who is given the task to redirect the worship of the people to the beast of the sea is this second beast, the beast of the earth. In that task, the beast of the earth has some of the followers make an image (perhaps a statue) of the beast of the sea. To the amazement of all, the second beast “gives breath” to the image, so that it is even able to speak and to cause all who do not submit to this worship of the beast to be killed.

KISII ORPHANAGE - MANAGING THE FUNDS

Trying to manage the funds that are given for the orphans is sometimes very difficult. There
are three basic costs that we try to cover.

The first of these and the highest priority fund is for all the food and other daily needs for the children.

The second is the school fees for the children. The new school term began on Monday. It will run until the 23rd of December. The total cost for all of fees for all our children is $5115 for this term.

The third fund is for the school that we are building on the orphanage. This is actually the lowest priority but important none-the-less. It a long-term project, and of course a very costly project.

As you can read in Joel’s letter below, we recently ran into a shortage of food for the
children because we needed to buy a large amount of building materials so that we could begin construction of the school. We rarely (almost never) know week-by-week how much money we will have for the next week or two. We simply have to trust God to provide.

When the food runs out, the staff and kids pray and fast. They seek the Lord. Pastor Joel tells the children, “I do not know why God has chosen not to provide food for this day, but it is the path he has chosen for us.”

Praise God that he did provide, and we were able to send last week. The breakdown for the food purchased is below, after Joel’s letter:
