THE FULFILLMENT PRINCIPLE IN THE LORD'S SUPPER - THE LOG CHURCH SERMON, FEB 14

The Lord’s Supper is one of the ordinances that is practiced by all Christian churches. There are several different ways in which the custom is observed, as well as many different ideas about what the ceremony actually means. There are also differences in opinion about what it is intended to represent.

The Lord’s Supper, also called the “Holy Communion,” or the “Eucharist,” has been the subject of much conversation and many controversies throughout the history of the church. There have even been several church and denomination splits over it.

The church has talked endlessly about the meanings behind the ordinance, but there are two things about the Lord’s Supper that we do not talk about much.

The first is that when Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper, one of his intentions in doing so was that it would demonstrate unity in the body of Christ. Considering this, if unity was one of his intentions, we should then ask ourselves why it is that we have instead allowed it to be a source of controversy in the church.

Did not Paul write concerning the Lord's Supper, “Because there is one loaf, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one loaf” (1 Corinthians 10:17).

The other thing that we do not talk about much is that as far as the meaning of the Lord’s Supper is concerned, Jesus spoke of it as of yet to be fulfilled in its entirety. That is, the true meaning of the Lord’s Supper has not yet been revealed to man. Jesus told the disciples that he himself would not again partake of the Lord’s Supper until it was “fulfilled” in the kingdom of heaven.

This being the case, another question that we should ask ourselves is that if the entire meaning of the Lord’s Supper is not even yet completely fulfilled, how is it that we are so presumptuous to say that we have complete understanding of its meaning? How can we say that all other understandings that differ from ours are wrong?

KISII REPORT - IRRIGATION SYSTEM BEGUN

A couple of days ago I posted on this blog the news that we are entering into what we hope is a new phase in making the orphanage more self-reliant. The first part of this plan is to develop a garden area where the children can work at growing their own food.

The plot of ground that we have to work with for our garden is not large (200 ft X 80 ft), but it is a beginning. Eventually, we plan on growing garden plants using either hydroponics or aquaponics, but that is still down the road. The first thing is simply get a garden established.

However, even before we do that, we need a

water system. That is what is presently being constructed. I have communicated much with Pastor Joel and the leadership on how we should go about doing it. Of course we cannot do everything at once, but only as the Lord supplies what is needed.

But we have a very good beginning. We are thankful for the money that has been contributed by you, our readers, in donating enough to buy the large 10,000 liter tank, besides all of the material to collect the water from the roofs. During the dry times of the

year, the tank is close enough to the road that it can be reached by a water delivery truck using a long hose. The cost of a tank of water is about $70 when delivered in this way, so we will first use what falls from heaven.

I have again included the diagram of the preliminary plans for the water system, so you may refer to it in order to understand what the set-up is to be.

Also, please see below several photos of the

grounds and the buildings. I hope these pictures will help you better visualize what the orphanage is like there.

Thanks for praying for all of these needs. We continue to look for and patiently wait for the Lord’s provision.

KISII REPORT - FOOD PURCHASE, FEBRUARY 5

Thanks to you, last week our Log Church was able to make a bank transfer of $6000 to the account of the orphanage in Kenya. As you can see by the bank receipt (if you look real, real hard), the exchange rate now is exactly 1 Kenya Shilling = 1 cent US (at least that is the rate we got from the bank).

We are excited to be able to begin to work on the water collection system that for now will serve the kitchen, perhaps the dormitories, and the new garden area that we will be starting. It is our first step in preparing for the future years of the orphanage.

Of the Ksh 600,000

218,460 of those shillings were spent on food. The breakdown is below.

381, 540 were spent on supplies for the new water collection system

In a couple of days I will post about the water system purchases, along with photos.

Here is the letter from Pastor Joel:

Dear Beloved Dad, Mum, Church and friends,

Greetings in Jesus name, we thank God for the love and love, we are praying for your safe each day. We trust that God will keep you safe under his wings. Thanks for every remembrance for the family in Kenya.

We are humbled for the help you sent. We bought food and water collection items. The children are sending their thanks for helping for food. We are humbled to God for everyone who send help to Pastor Don and Vivian. Be assured that we do receive the money and kindly keep praying for us and do not stop helping despite the challenge you go through.

We know everyone is struggling. Kindly help your family in Kenya for the well-being. God bless you all for the help you are sending. The plumbing cost of items we bought + plumbing cost =Ksh.381, 540

Below is the food we bought and it will last for 9 days. Thanks.

THE WISEST WORDS EVER WRITTEN - THE LOG CHURCH SERMON, FEB 8

Because of the extreme cold, today we are not having a gathering at our Log Church in Tripoli. I wrote to the people that it is only the church service this canceled, but church is not canceled. The true church (you and me) continues, but it just continues as we stay warm in our own little homes.

Reading that message from me, Bob from our church emailed me and told me that he was reading about the weather in the book of Job. He wondered that since we are not meeting today as a church, if I could put out a devotional about some of this.

“Interesting,” I thought to myself—reading about the weather in the book of Job. Bob’s comment intrigued me enough to write a devotional, which actually turned into something a little lengthy. Here it is below:

STEP-BY-STEP WE BUILD FOR THE FUTURE OF THE ORPHANAGE

Since about a week and a half ago, when I put up the blog post about Planning for the Future of the Log Church Orphanage, Pastor Joel and the Orphanage leadership and I have been doing a lot of texting back and forth about the best way to complete the two projects of the garden and the school in manageable phases.

Although the school remains in our long-term plan, the most essential is to begin with the garden, and to do the garden, we first need to develop a water system for irrigation. This water system will also help in the present dormitory and the kitchen, and in the future school building.

Initially, we think that we can meet most of the water requirements from rain gutters and a collection tank. It has been something that we have talked about for some time, but as you can see by the price quotations, it costs a little money to put in place, which we before did not have.

For the very first time since we began the orphanage, in January(last month) there were enough gifts sent in by many of you so that we not only were able to feed the children, but have been able to make substantial payments on their school fees and expenses. Last week we were able to make a bank transfer of $6000 to the orphanage account. This was enough to meet current needs and provide for beginning the water system. Thank you!

As we considered this first time additional money, we have decided that it was time to move ahead in faith and begin to better prepare for the future. You can also read about this if you scroll down to the January 19 post. Of course there is not yet enough to bring anything to completion, since food needs continue and school costs. But we are moving ahead as we did with building the dormitory—step by step and God provides.

If you are interested, the price quotations for the water system that we received are below. The cost for the labor of the installation of all the tanks, plumbing and rain gutters will also be an additional Ksh 70,000 ($700 US).
