KISII REPORT - THE GARDEN PROJECT

Greetings from Kenya family, we thank the almighty God for the love and everything He has done through you all for the help we receive from you through Pastor Don, Vivian and Church treasurer. Our prayers with you, thanks for the provision of garden project.

The children are preparing garden to plant vegetables. Thanks for the food provision and we have started paying school fees partially as we are nearing to opening dates. The churches are growing and more souls are coming to Christ see pictures keep praying for church building debt we trust God will provide. Thanks. Keep praying for school project, food and school fees.

See below expenditure of the help received from you Ksh. 500,000.

The budget for food was Ksh385900. The remainder was used to begin paying for the upcoming school term, which will begin on May 10.

Maize =558.5kilogram, one kg =Ksh.200 x558.5=111,700.

Cooking oil =60itres,one litre cost Ksh. 250x60litres=Ksh.15,000.

Sanitizer 29litres, one litre @ 150=Ksh.4400

We thank God for the provision, day consumption (breakfast, lunch and supper)=number of days. 385900 ÷ Ksh. 22364 =17 days

THE LOG CHURCH SERMON, APRIL 25 - THE LOG CHURCH ORPHANAGE OF KENYA

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

For the next few Sundays, I will be sharing the story how I first became involved with beginning an orphanage in Kenya. It is a story that I have never before told in depth to the people of my church. I have not done this mostly because these messages will not be typical sermons of Bible exposition. Nevertheless, I hope that in hearing them, there may be some who can use my experiences to see how God can sometimes call the most unqualified and unlikely person to act as His steward.

In the telling of this story, I try to be open and honest about my own doubts and inadequacies, of which there were (and are) plenty. The overall lesson in this is that the work of God does not depend upon our own abilities, but only His own power.[1]

Helping to begin this orphanage was not a work that I wanted to take on, and at any moment I would have been glad to have been given any reason to quit. When God called me, my response was that of Moses when God called him to his work, “Please, Lord, send someone else.”

But God did not allow me to refuse, although I tried for almost a year.

Now, more than four years after that time, the work of the orphanage continues. It would be nice to be able to say that at this point, everything there is well-established and that we have in place a good system for our existence and our operations. Frankly, we are still in the beginning stages, and our day-to-day survival is little more secure as it was in the very beginning.

However, all of this has also kept us continually looking to God to provide, and we have found our security in Him.

We are nothing in ourselves.

I take you back in time to late in the year 2017. It was at that time when I was contemplating a trip that I was to take to Kenya, East Africa. It was a country that I had never before visited. Frankly, it was a country that I actually never planned on visiting – not at this late stage of my life.

GARDEN IRRIGATION SYSTEM COMPLETE

The pictures of the irrigation system are self-explanatory. Thank you to all who have donated in these past few weeks so this project could be completed so quickly. This is a major step forward in helping the orphanage less dependent on outside purchase of foods. Also, the children are very happy that they do not have to walk a half an hour down into the valley to collect water.

With the watering system now in place, the garden can now be planted. The new school term begins in a few days, so hopefully the kids can get the planting done before they are off the class every day.

CALLED TO GLORY - THE LOG CHURCH SERMON, APRIL 18

What do we actually mean when we speak of the “glory of the Lord?” Take a moment and ask yourself how you would define the word “glory.” We use that word a lot in the church. Many songs that we sing in our churches are about God’s glory, or that we should “give God glory.” We talk about much of not only God’s glory, but even about when we die, we say that we “enter into glory.”

Exactly what do we mean when we say those things? If we had to specifically explain what we meant in each of those cases, what would we say? Exactly what is the “glory of God?” When we enter into glory, just what are we entering?

The reason that we use the word so much in the church because the Bible also uses it a lot, and no one uses the word more than Jesus Christ. In the gospel of John chapter seventeen, as Jesus and the disciples left the upper room where they had eaten their last meal together and were walking from to the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus stops.

Chapters fifteen and sixteen of John’s gospel contain many words of advice and counsel that Jesus had spoken to his disciples, but now in chapter seventeen, Jesus pauses and lifts his eyes to heaven.

KISII REPORT - THE RAINS HAVE BEGUN

 At the moment, the small tank is in place on the tower, the pump has been purchased, along with the sprinklers and everything needed to put the irrigation in place for the garden. But ironically, the irrigation work has been delayed a few days because of heavy rains.

This time of the year, around the vernal equinox is traditionally the time of heavy rains, but Pastor Joel tells me that even this is changing. If you care to look back on the blog to the February 9, 2020 post (KISII REPORT – MUUSUM WINDS), there I explain why the seasonal weather patterns for east Africa have been changing in recent years. Rains and drought times can now occur at almost any time of the year.

This change in weather patterns was also the cause for the locust invasion, which if you remember, was also taking place about this time last year. The locusts are still in the northern part of the country, but the government has conducted a vigorous spraying campaign, so the numbers are greatly reduced.

Concerning the completion of the irrigation and water system, the rains have now let up in the past couple of days, so it is our hope that in the coming week all may be installed so that planting can take place. They did not want to plant beforehand, since installing the pipes would disrupt too much of the garden soil.

EASTER SUNDAY AT THE LOG CHURCH OF KENYA

 Weekly Report from Pastor Joel

Dear beloved Dad, Mum, Church and Friends,

Greetings from Kenya family, our prayers are with you all. We humbled for the Easter holiday, God has been teaching us more as we were sharing on the teaching on the work of the cross and its benefits.

Thanks for your prayers and help for the churches in Kenya. Despite the challenges we are in this covid 19, yesterday (Sunday) we met together our two churches Nyakembene and Matagaro church to celebrate Resurrection Sunday and partake the  Holy communion. 

We were not able to meet in the building as the rules of Covid-19 we were under trees to maintain social distance.

We have not able to pick the help you sent for it has been holidays till today and also tomorrow the financial manager will not be available so we will pick on Wednesday. On this day we have been having no food we have been using them in fasting and prayers, but other days we received some help from our two churches from those fasting during Easter. Some of the food will sustain the kids till tomorrow, and now we will be able to buy food on Wednesday as withdrawal the money. See picture of the church gathering we had yesterday as were taking holy communion.

On the project of garden we will update you as we have help to complete the phase that has remained. May God bless you and the church in Kenya for prayers and help for the children under our care in Log orphanage Kenya.

HOW TO DIE - THE LOG CHURCH GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE

“For everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven…A time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance,”

Good Friday in the Log Church is not a gathering in which we laugh. It is not a service when we dance. Sunday will be that day. That is Resurrection Sunday. On that day there will be joy. There will be laughter and dancing. That will be the season to rejoice.

In this service however—on Good Friday, we are commemorating the death of Jesus. This is not the season of laughter and dancing. These things simply are not appropriate on this day. Rather, this day is the season of weeping. It is the season in which mourn.

In addition, on this particular Good Friday service, we are going to be thinking about another aspect of that death. We will be considering how the death of Jesus affects even our own death.

In the words of the Apostle Paul:

I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me. (Galatians 2:20)

On Sunday last, I asked you to read this verse every day this past week—to memorize it and to meditate on it. Today is Friday. You have had five days to meditate on these words.

But of course today is not just any Friday, it is Good Friday. It is the day when we consider the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Considering what took place on this day long ago, in some ways it may seem insensitive that we call this Friday “Good,” but in other ways it is completely appropriate.

We are speaking about the crucifixion of our Lord and Savior. What the people did to him on that day was evil. But because Jesus submitted himself to the crucifixion, the good that came from that is that he took upon himself the punishment for our rebellion that rightly should have been required of us. Through his death, he paid the penalty for our transgression. We have been given the opportunity for life.
