LEARING HOW TO COPE AT THE ORPHANAGE

Below is this week’s letter from Pastor Joel. He actually sent it in the 7th. It has been trying times in Kenya and especially at the orphanage. The “perfect storm” has descended on Kenya in three parts.

1. If you are a regular reader of this blog, you will remember that for the past couple of years I have written of the unusually heavy rains in the region. These rains caused some crop failures, driving up food prices.

2. Some of those same rains made their way up into the Arabian Peninsula, causing a massive reproduction of the desert locust. In these conditions, the desert locust is actually transformed into a variant, changing from an insect that lives a mostly solitary life into a gregarious and quickly multiplying horde of winged and voracious eating creatures. Their appearance also actually changes.

No matter how much the Arabian Desert had bloomed, these millions and billions of locusts soon run
out of food in that usually mostly barren land. They form huge swarms and fly out looking for new sources of food.

(from Wikipedia)
One of the first places that they went was East Africa—Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia and Eretria. Many of the food crops in these regions were devastated, driving down food supplies and driving up the cost of food.

3. COVID-19. When this latest plague hit the world, Kenya was left unprepared and already driven to its knees by the previous two disasters.

The orphanage was put on lockdown—with no one from the outside allowed to enter, nor the children allowed to leave, except apparently, to go to fetch the water from the creek ½ hour walk away.

Schools were closed, the church was closed, and existence reduced to a pretty grim struggle to simply stay alive. We have also been prevented from sending some help to them.

That is still the situation today. PLEASE remember these children in your prayers, and PLEASE pray that the situation can be brought to the point where there can be some help given to these children.

Here is the letter from Pastor Joel:
***********************
Dear beloved Dad, Mum, Church and Friends,

Greetings in Jesus name, we want to thank God for the love and concern for the church and orphanage in Kenya. During this time of civid-19 we have passed ups and downs and have learned lot of lessons that will help us pray and seek God to supply for the long term project. First as by this situation we are forced to monitor the kids to and from going to the river to fetch water, we are praying God to allow us have borehole for the orphanage.

The children have suffered and some of the time we have to sleep without taking food as we most of the time is hand to mouth as we have no project that can sustain the orphanage with local resources what we have passed through during this time has opened the eyes of the leadership that it will be good if can have income generating project, keeping hens and cows that can help to get food and run the orphanage here.

We are mentioning this not appeal for money but it's because we know that their is power in prayer   impossible to happen and make way to have this dream of project happen.
and we request your prayers because it can make

Thanks to all who have been in the forefront in helping and supporting this Log orphanage that is registered under Mata Community Based Organization know Kenya and East Africa thanks for the love and prayers that have made this happen.

We are praying and covering you in our prayers that God will supply for your needs we know that you are passing through tough times because of the restrictions of covid-19 may God provide and make door open for you all.

Beloved as one family in the Lord it's good to notify you that we have allowed to meet in church
public with restrictions and rules to follow. Kindly pray for us God to supply and have the roof covered.

For us to be able to meet point to note is that we have given only 3 weeks for trial in meetings publicly in church and if we will break the rules then the president will close it again please pray for us. Also now we will be meeting outside as we have no place of worship as it's under construction. As by now we are meeting outside with children.

Some can ask what about school they are closed and we are waiting to hear the directive from the ministry of health and education.

Once again beloved thanks for your prayers and help, keep praying for the children to have food, clothing, school fees and other needs, like now food is over from our storeroom and we request your prayers, thanks to the some Log Church Kenya for donating bananas to be cooked for the children that has helped on Sunday and more.

God bless you all. Thanks. We pray and trust God will answer your prayers and send help for the children. Thanks. God bless you all.

Yours Son Joel and Church leadership Log Church of Kisii- Kenya.
