Perhaps you do not grow much kale in your garden. I must admit the fact that I do not grow it in my garden. But kale is an important part of the diet of the orphans. They first establish it in shaded nursery beds, then transplant it in the garden.
As of yet, all watering is done by water carried up on the shoulders of the kids from the river. We have a borehole, but as of yet, we have not been able to purchase the pump and other equipment.
Kale there can grow tall, as you can see by this photo taken
a couple of years ago of me standing in a field of kale. The bottom leaves are
taken for food, and the top continues to grow more leaves.
