Opening Song

Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place,

I can feel His mighty power and his grace.

I can hear the brush of angel’s wings, I see glory on each face.

Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.

Call to Worship

On the evening before Jesus faced his crucifixion, he gathered his disciples in a large upper room of a home in Jerusalem. His purposes for this were several, but it was primarily because he knew that it would be the last opportunity that he would have to impart some teachings to the men who had walked with him for three years.

Just as the disciples of that day were gathered to learn from Jesus, so we have gathered today in our church to learn from Him. We are the disciples of Jesus of the present day, and we know that we’ve a lot to learn.

Invocation Prayer

Dear Savior, we thank you for this opportunity that we have on this morning to set aside some moments of our week in order to spend with You, and also with one another, all of us gathered in Your name. We ask your blessing on this hour before us, and we ask you to give us ears to hear what you say to each one of us, and hearts that are ready to obey. Amen.

Song of Worship        #124 in the old hymnal – Lead Me to Calvary

Selected Reading – Philippians 2:3-11

Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant.

Prayer of Confession

Heavenly Father, today we confess our dependence upon You. Forgive us when we look at our own interests as being more important that the welfare of others. Teach us to learn Your ways and to take on Your humility. Amen

Words of Assurance

Despite all the advice from the self-assigned experts of this world, the prophet Micah gives us this clear instruction: “He has told you, O mortal man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8)

The Lord’s Prayer

Song of Faith – #7 – The Heart of Worship

Scripture Reading

OT – Isaiah 57:15

For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

NT – Romans 12:3

For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.

Responsorial Reading:  Psalm 34:1-8

When pride comes, then comes disgrace,

But with humility comes wisdom. (Proverbs 11:2)

He mocks proud mockers,

But shows favor to the humble and oppressed.  (Proverbs 3:34)

The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom,

And humility comes before honor. (Proverbs 15:33)

Before destruction a man’s heart is haughty,

But humility comes before honor. (Proverbs 18:12)

One’s pride will bring him low,

But he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor. (Proverbs 29:23)

For the Lord takes pleasure in his people;

He adorns the humble with salvation.  (Psalm 149:4)

But the meek shall inherit the land

And delight themselves in abundant peace. (Psalm 37:11)

Offering    Please notice that a basket has been provided at the entrance of the church to receive your offering. Thanks and God bless you!

Prayer of Intercession

Dear Father, we thank you for this day and this moment. We thank you for our fellow Christians around the world, and those of our own Log Church, whether they are present with us here this morning or at home.

We pray also for those with other personal concerns. These may be health concerns, financial concerns, family, or many other aspects of our daily lives. Please minister to each one, and may each one of us turn to You for the help that they seek.

We pray also for our children in the orphanage of the Log Church of Kenya. Bless them with food, and please provide clothing and the means to attend school. Guide them as they begin to set up the irrigation system for the new garden to grow food.

We pray for our country. We are thankful that you have given us this nation and have blessed us richly, but we are now in times of difficulty. Your word is disregarded, and there is little respect for your teachings. Please send your Holy Spirit to speak to our hearts, and we ask that revival will come to us.

We pray for those who have silent requests. Many carry concerns and worries that they do not share freely. Please minister to these afflicted ones.

Thank you for your gracious answer to all of our prayers.

Thank you Father, for listening to the voices of all of your servants. Amen

Closing Song   #6 – Give Thanks
