Opening Song

Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place,

I can feel His mighty power and his grace.

I can hear the brush of angel’s wings; I see glory on each face.

Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.

Call to Worship

The elections are over but the rhetoric is not. Some things are yet a bit unclear, and many have questions about certain aspects of it all. But there is one thing that is very certain, our country is in need of much prayer and introspection. We need to rediscover who we are as a nation and what is important.

We pray for the hearts of our citizens. We pray that we would remember the preeminence we once gave to the teachings of Scripture. We pray that we would render respect to God as we once did.

Invocation Prayer

Sovereign Lord of all creation, perhaps now as much as at any time in recent history, we realize the need in our nation for your truths. At this moment, we need healing and we need your intervention. Thank you for your continued leading in our land. Amen.

Song of Worship        #8 – I Could Sing of Your Love Forever

Selected Reading – Ephesians 3:14-19

I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I ask that out of the riches of His glory He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may pdwell in your hearts through faith. Then you, being rooted and grounded in love, will have power, together with all the saints, to comprehend the length and width and height and depth of the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Prayer of Confession

Heavenly Father, in these days in our nation we need to understand your love as much as any time in our history. We are a nation in crisis and a nation that has lost its direction. We hear many commentators say this, but we hear none give the solution. We believe that You are the solution. We ask you to intervene, we ask you to heal, and we ask you to send a new awakening to the truths of your word. Amen

Words of Assurance

We have in the Bible many instances in the history of Israel where they had strayed from the Lord, but with a great revival they returned. We know that it is possible, even in the darkest hours of spiritual frailty, God can and will intervene in answer to the prayers of even a few.

Keep praying and keep trusting. Most importantly, keep in mind that God is not yet finished with his work in the world.

The Lord’s Prayer

Song of Faith – #33 – All Hail the Power

Scripture Reading

OT – Lamentations 3:22-26

Because of the loving devotion of the LORD we are not consumed, for His mercies never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!

“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.”

The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.

It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.

NT – Romans 5:2-5

Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Responsorial Reading: from Psalm 63

O God, You are my God. Earnestly I seek You;

My soul thirsts for You. My body longs for You, in a dry and weary land without water.

So I have seen You in the sanctuary and beheld Your power and glory.

Because Your loving devotion is better than life, my lips will glorify You.

So I will bless You as long as I live; in Your name I will lift my hands.

My soul is satisfied as with the richest of foods; with joyful lips my mouth will praise You.

When I remember You on my bed, I think of You through the watches of the night.

For You are my help; I will sing for joy in the shadow of Your wings.

My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.

Message           Why Evil Came to God’s Perfect Creation

Song of Unity  #61 in the old hymnal – O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus

Prayer of Intercession

Dear Lord, each of us has many questions about the future years in our country—even the future months. We may have also some questions about our own futures—what they hold for us. Thank you that you have promised to always be with us, loving us and caring for us.

Although we cannot know all that will come, we pray for those of us of our own church who face what we see as especially uncertain futures. Whether it be in health or finances, family or employment, we pray that you would give them assurance that you will carry you through.

We pray the new administration of our country as they prepare to take office. It is a difficult time, and the challenges are great. We do not know how many of the people that will be involved are truly seeking your guidance, but we pray that you will give to them sound judgment.

We pray for our children in the orphanage of the Log Church of Kenya. Bless them with food, and please provide clothing and the means to attend school.

We pray for each private request in each of our hearts. Many carry concerns and worries that they do not share freely. We pray that you would meet each need.

Thank you for your gracious answer to all of our prayers.

Thank you Father, for listening to the voices of all of your servants. Amen

Closing Song    #9 – I Love You Lord

Benediction and prayer
