Opening Song

Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place,

I can feel His mighty power and his grace.

I can hear the brush of angel’s wings; I see glory on each face.

Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.

Call to Worship

There are many doctrines of the Bible that are difficult for us to understand. They are difficult both because we do not yet have the entire meaning of what they try to teach us, and because we as of yet are not capable of understanding fully. None of these doctrines are more difficult than the reasons why God instructs us that the shedding of the blood of an innocent substitute is necessary for the forgiveness of our sins.

It is precisely because we do not yet have the full meaning and because of our inability to understand fully that faith is important for the Christian. When God has shown in the past that He is faithful to his word, we have confidence to follow him in all things. Also, the greater distance in life that we follow him, our confidence grows. He is faithful and will remain faithful.

Invocation Prayer

Merciful Lord, despite the fact that there are many deeper truths concerning the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins that are beyond our understanding, in faith we thank you for your salvation, and we worship you as our Lord. We thank for you this hour that we have as a time set aside in our lives for worshiping together as your church and as a body of believers. Thank you that you are also here among us in our midst, a truth that we cannot comprehend, but that we accept in faith in you, our God. Amen.

Announcements and birthdays

Selected Reading – Romans 3:23-26

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. God presented Him as the atoning sacrifice through faith in His blood, in order to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance He had passed over the sins committed beforehand. He did this to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and to justify the one who has faith in Jesus.

Prayer of Confession

Dear Lord and Savior, we thank you for the assurance of forgiveness, not because what we do to earn forgiveness, but because of what Jesus did on our behalf. We ask again for your forgiveness and grace, because we frequently fail to live by the standards that we know that we should. Thank you for the grace that you show to us, and thank you for your forgiveness and love. Amen

Words of Assurance

Scripture says that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us. He is faithful in forgiving us, meaning that we can be certain that he does. We do not need to doubt.

He is also just in forgiving us. He can forgive us with justice, because of what Jesus did on our behalf. These are the assurances that we have through the love and kindness of God.

Song of Faith – #22 – We Fall Down

Scripture Reading

OT – Exodus 12:21-27

Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and told them, “Go at once and select for yourselves a lamb for each family, and slaughter the Passover lamb. Take a cluster of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin, and brush the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe. None of you shall go out the door of his house until morning.

When the LORD passes through to strike down the Egyptians, He will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway; so He will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.

And you are to keep this command as a permanent statute for you and your descendants.

When you enter the land that the LORD will give you as He promised, you are to keep this service.

When your children ask you, ‘What does this service mean to you?’ you are to reply, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the LORD, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt when He struck down the Egyptians and spared our homes.’ ”

NT – Hebrews 9:21-24

In the same way, he sprinkled with blood the tabernacle and all the vessels used in worship. According to the law, in fact, nearly everything must be purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. So it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ did not enter a man-made copy of the true sanctuary, but He entered heaven itself, now to appear on our behalf in the presence of God.

Responsorial Reading: Psalm 27:4-9

One thing I have asked of the LORD; this is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,

To behold the beauty of the LORD and seek Him in His temple.

For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter;

He will conceal me under the cover of His tent; He will set me high upon a rock.

Then my head will be held high above my enemies around me.

At His tabernacle I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD.

Hear, O LORD, my voice when I call; be merciful and answer me.

My heart said, “Seek His face.” Your face, O LORD, I will seek.

Hide not Your face from me, nor turn away Your servant in anger.

You have been my helper; do not leave me or forsake me, O God of my salvation.

Message           Blood…Blood…Blood. So Much Blood

Song of Unity  #460 in the old hymnal – Leaning on the Everlasting Arms

Prayer of Intercession

Dear Father, we thank you for this day and this moment. We thank you for our fellow Christians around the world, and those of our own Log Church, whether they be present with us here this morning or at home because of illness. Perhaps because they home are taking precautions because of the pandemic that has now reached our remote part of the country.

We pray for these, and we pray that you will protect us in our health. We pray particularly for those in nursing homes or other care facilities who are mostly confined to their rooms. Please be with them and fill their long hours with your presence.

We pray for our country. We are thankful that you have given us this nation and have blessed us richly, but we are now in times of difficulty. Your word is disregarded, and there is little respect for your teachings. Many deny you. And now you have given us testings on several fronts to attempt to awaken us as to our need to return to you. Please send your Holy Spirit to speak to our hearts, and we ask that revival will come to us.

We pray for those who have silent requests. Many carry concerns and worries that they do not share freely. Please minister to these afflicted ones.

We pray also for our children in the orphanage of the Log Church of Kenya. Bless them with food, and please provide clothing and the means to attend school.

Thank you for your gracious answer to all of our prayers.

Thank you Father, for listening to the voices of all of your servants. Amen
