Call to Worship
We have gathered here this morning with the common desire in each of us to follow the Lord. Some have been believers for many years, and some for only a short time. Perhaps there are others here who have not actually decided to follow God, but are interested in learning more.
We are all at different places in life’s journey, but the Lord is accepting of each one of us and wants to lead us to growth in knowing Him.
Each of us have come with our own individual needs and questions, but we have all come here with the desire to know more. In addition to this, as we meet in this hour, may our attitude be one of praise to God for his leading in our lives.
Lord Jesus, you were before time and are beyond time; you knew us before our birth into time, and will greet us again upon our departing. But you are also with us here and now, pouring blessing upon us and all the earth, making yourself known in love, nourishing us with your Spirit-presence.
We, who are thirsty, long to drink of the water of life that you give, for you are the only one who can satisfy our longing. Fill us, and help us to worship you rightly. Fill us, and prepare us to serve you, we pray.
Selected Reading – Psalm 119:33-40
Teach me O Lord, the way of your statutes, and I shall observe it to the end.
Give me understanding that I may observe Thy law and keep it with all my heart.
Make me walk in the path of your righteousness for I delight in it.
Incline my heart to Your testimonies and not to dishonest gain.
Turn away my eyes from looking at vanity and revive me in Your ways.
Establish Your word to Your servant as that which produces reverence for You.
Turn away my reproach which I dread, for your ordinances are good.
Behold, I long for your precepts. Revive me through Your righteousness.
Prayer of Confession
Gracious God, we confess that on this road of life, we often take missteps and follow diverse trails that lead us away from you. We may think that we know the road to happiness and fulfillment better than you, but in the end, we see that all of our high ideals amount to nothing. Our ways are frivolous.
Your ways bring fulfillment. Help us to understand that. Amen
Words of Assurance
When Jesus was on the earth, he walked many miles on the roads of his day with his disciples and with others who would walk with him. When you are physically walking for hours on a road accompanied by a friend, you get to know that friend intimately.
You come to also know his walk of life. Jesus knows your walk of life and he is willing to help you along in it. He is happy to do this. Let him walk with you today.
The Lord’s Prayer
Song of Faith #22 – We Fall Down
OT – Habakkuk 2:20; Psalm 23:3
The Lord is in His holy temple; let all the earth keep silent before him.
He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake
NT – John 17:6-9 (Prayer of Jesus to the Father)
I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours.
Responsorial Reading Isaiah 43:16-21
This is what the Lord says—he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters,
Who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together,
And they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen,
The people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.

Prayer of Intercession
Our Father, today as we have thought about following you, it comes to our minds that the path that many have had to walk has been a difficult one. Indeed, some are at a particularly difficult place on their path right at this moment.
Please intervene for these people. Help them to know that whatever difficulty that they are facing right now, you are with them at each step and will uphold them.
Give your life-giving touch to those who know no rest or peace in their lives. Sustain those who are paralyzed by fear in the present and dismay for the future. Bless those who are putting great effort into following you, despite the extreme difficulties that they are facing.
We pray for our nation. The sickness that we hear about on the news is Covid-19, but there is a sickness present that is much deeper than that. It is a sickness of the soul and of the spirit of our nation. We know the cure for this disease. It is that we would turn back to hearing your voice and walking your paths.
We pray also for our Log Churches and Orphanage in Kenya. Please sustain them and protect them. Help us also to know how to continue into the future in this work.
Thank you Father, for hearing us, for listening to the prayers of those who are walking with you in faith.
Thank you for your gracious answers to all of our prayers. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen
